NIUE | A clear course for UN support over the next two years.

Although Niue is a high-income country with few development concerns to address, there are gaps and opportunities where the development support of the UN is relevant and needed.

The consultation on the Country Implementation Plan (CIP) for Niue discussed and prioritized the development sectors where UN support is crucial.

The CIP is an integral component of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), as the planning tool that informs the UN agencies of the development priorities of a country where its support, whether in financial resources or technical expertise adds value to.

The overall vision within the UNSDCF 2023-2027 is to improve the lives of the people of the Pacific. The UN believes that this vision can be achieved through all development programs organised and delivered under  four key pillars namely, People, Planet, Prosperity, and Peace.

Under the People pillar, the UN aims to improve the lives of everyone by enabling access to quality essential services such as education and health; social protection services, sustainable food systems, and nutrition.

The Planet Pillar aims to build resilience to shocks and disasters, and climate change impacts, to ensure that the natural ecosystems and biodiversity are better protected, at the same time, their traditional knowledge and cultural values are integrated and recognized across these efforts.

The Prosperity Pillar brings together the work of the UN to ensure equal opportunities for decent jobs and livelihoods and the Peace Pillar focuses on human rights, gender equality, and participation.

The four Pillars are aligned with the national development vision of Niue and the work of the UN under these pillars remains relevant but it calls for stronger support in digital transformation, food systems, health systems, and the environment.

Niue signed the UNSDCF 2023-2027 on November 28 2002 and following the CIP Consultation it is a guarantee for constructive, coordinated, and impactful collaborations.
