Country Implementation Plan for Cook Islands has been endorsed.
A clear path for UN development support in the Cook Islands.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Themba Kalua and the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigrations Tepaeru Herrmann, acting on behalf of the Government of the Cook Islands, have signed the UN – Cook Islands Country Implementation Plan 2023-2024 (CIP 2023-2024).
The UN and the Cook Islands' endorsement of the CIPs, underscores their joint commitment towards the achievement of Cook Islands’ national development agenda and their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The CIP is an integral component of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), as the planning tool that clearly informs UN agencies of the development priorities of its member countries and required UN support, whether financial or technical.
The CIP 2023-2024 has been informed by UN consultations with the Cook Islands government, the private sector and civil society held in March 2023.
The UN will support the Cook Islands across a number of broad areas including climate change, environment protection and natural disasters; social services; gender equality; governance and institutional strengthening; and human rights to name a few.
