At the heart of all UN and Niue collaborations, is the will to ensure that the people of Niue enjoy a life of peace and prosperity.
The Government of Niue in an official event on the 30th of January 2024, welcomed the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator Mr. Themba Arthur Jimani Kalua, and the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative, Ms. Aliona Niculita who are both based in the UN Multi Country Office (MCO) in Samoa serving Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa, and Tokelau.
This was also the event where the Premier of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi accepted the Letters of Credentials from both the UN Resident Coordinator and the UNDP Resident Representative.
The presentation of Letters of Credentials formalizes the recognition of the new leadership in the UN MCO for these countries and of ongoing collaborations.
The UN Resident Coordinators Office & UNDP MCO together with the Government of Niue express their joint commitment to working collaboratively, aligning efforts to achieve national development priorities, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and other internationally agreed development goals and treaty obligations.
During the UN mission in Niue they met with various government agencies to discuss ongoing joint initiatives, challenges and opportunities to venture into new and innovative projects to accelerate their contribution to achieve the SDG commitments and the expectations of the UN Pacific Cooperation Framework.
"We welcome Mr.Themba Arthur Jimani Kalua and Ms. Aliona Niculita to Niue. This engagement sets the stage for enhanced collaboration, ensuring that our joint efforts contribute to the well-being and sustainable development of Niue," stated Premier of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi.
The UN Secretary General announced Mr. Themba Kalua appointment in August 2023. Ms Aliona Niculita started her term as the UNDP RR in October 2023. Both visited Niue for the first time.
