Niue signs Country Implementation Plan.

Alofa, Niue - A promising moment for the Government of Niue and the United Nations as the  Minister of Finance and Infrastructure, Hon. Crossley Tatui and the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr Themba Kalua, officially signed the Niue - UN Country Implementation Plan (CIP) for 2023 – 2024.

The signing event formalises the commitment of the UN and the Government of Niue to collaborate meaningfully in advancing the sustainable development initiatives for the betterment of the nation.

The CIP for 2023-2024 is a strategic framework that builds upon the Pacific United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027 (UNSDCF), a comprehensive plan developed by the UN in collaboration with 14 Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs). The CIP is the result of consultations between the Government of Niue and the UN development system in the Pacific region, including non-resident entities.

At its core, the CIP aims to define collective UN actions and deliverables in Niue, operationalizing the outcomes of the UNSDCF while being firmly anchored to the country-level priorities and absorptive capacity of local structures. This joint effort signifies a strong commitment from both the UN and the Government of Niue to work collaboratively towards achieving national development priorities, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and other internationally agreed-upon development goals and treaty obligations.

The Minister of Finance and Infrastructure, Hon. Crossley Tatui expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "The signing of the Country Implementation Plan shows our shared dedication to sustainable development. By aligning our efforts with the global goals outlined in the UNSDCF, we are taking concrete steps towards a more resilient and prosperous Niue."

The CIP will serve as a guiding document, directing joint efforts between the UN and the Government of Niue. The anticipated collective results are expected to empower the people of Niue, ensuring they are equal and free to exercise their fundamental rights, promoting gender equality and peace, enhancing resilience to existential threats, and fostering harmony with the blue continent.

The Government of Niue and the UN Coordinator expressed optimism for the positive impact that will result from this collaboration, with the CIP serving as a blueprint for sustainable development initiatives in the region.
